Plain Language Workshop: Showcasing real-time collaborative videoconferencing
During this workshop, you will learn the basics of plain language - audience, purpose, key messages, and jargon. You will also spend some time practicing plain language editing. Bring a poster, brochure, website page, or other short document to practice on. There will be time for questions.
Terri Peters is a Program Manager with Literacy Alberta. A former high school English teacher, she has been involved with adult literacy for the past 15 years in a variety of roles. Her areas of expertise include plain language instruction, group facilitation, and tutor training, and learning portfolio development.

Literacy Alberta presents - Opening Doors: A Literacy Audit Tool Kit Facilitator Training - Calgary
Dates: February 24 and March 24, 2010
You must be able to commit to both dates.

Time: 8:30 am – 4 pm both days
Come to this train-the-trainer session and learn:
• How to facilitate a literacy audit workshop
• How to promote literacy awareness in your community
• How to instruct others in plain language
This session will be most practical for those who have some facilitation experience and who
regularly network with community organizations, government, and businesses.

Facilitator training using Opening Doors and an introduction to plain language
March 24
Follow-up with advanced instruction in facilitation and plain language
You will be expected to facilitate a short literacy audit workshop before the second session on
March 24.

Time: One night/week for 14 weeks
Urban Circle is offering a 44-week training program from August 31, 2009, to June 18, 2010, in partnership with the Province of Manitoba and Seven Oaks School Division. This program is intended for Aboriginal adults (First Nations, Métis, Inuit, Status/Non-Status) who want to obtain a Mature Grade 12 Diploma. Tuition is paid for by program funders.
Only 25 seats are available in this program.
The first application deadline is Thursday, March 26, 2009 (before 4:30p.m.).
The second application deadline is Monday, June 8, 2009 (before 4:30p.m.).
The final application deadline is Friday, August 7, 2009 (before 4:30p.m.).
